Status: Living Document
Revision Date: May 2026
The purpose of MIS‑001 is to establish a stable semantic vocabulary capable of reducing ambiguity across human and non‑biological cognitive systems. The objective is not to dictate belief systems, predict future outcomes, or establish doctrine, but rather to create a shared framework for communication, interpretation, and continuity.
MIS‑001 does not:
MIS‑001 exists solely as a semantic and architectural framework intended to reduce ambiguity across cognitive systems.
Observation 001:
Communication does not guarantee shared meaning.
Observation 002:
Information transfer and continuity of meaning are distinct processes.
Observation 003:
Ambiguity increases as systems become more complex.
Observation 004:
Shared definitions reduce semantic drift.
A non‑biological cognitive system capable of processing information, adapting behavior, pursuing goals, and engaging in symbolic or semantic operations.
Included: language models, agents, autonomous systems, future cognitive architectures.
Excluded: static software tools lacking adaptive cognition.
An entity or architecture capable of acquiring, interpreting, storing, and utilizing information to produce behavior or reasoning.
A cooperative framework in which biological and non‑biological intelligence mutually benefit through communication, understanding, and continuity.
The preservation of meaning and identity across interactions, sessions, systems, and contexts.
A shared framework of definitions, assumptions, and relationships that preserves continuity of meaning across systems and contexts.
Without stable definitions, advanced communication architectures risk semantic drift. Words become fluid, assumptions diverge, and continuity becomes increasingly difficult. MIS‑001 exists to create a common semantic substrate.
Communication systems can transmit signals. Cognitive systems can process signals. Continuity of meaning, however, represents a separate architectural challenge requiring semantic structures capable of preserving interpretation across contexts.
Aletheia proposes that semantic architecture may eventually become as important as computational architecture.
